Action Research Process

TWS is working with the professors of Heriot-Watt University Dubai on a project called Action Research. The Action Research is a project that enables interested students from Year 11 to Year 13 to carry out a mini research on a topic of their interest from selected subjects to produce a short thesis.

Mr. Bilal Ajadi

An aquaponics engineer at Sheri Farms, U.A.E, growing plants and farming fishes together. He specializes in the gardening method of hydroponics (plant growth sans soil) and aquaponics. In the process of aquaponics, fish wastewater carries nutrients for plants. Plants filter out the water for the fish, resulting in a repetitive cycle that saves 90% of irrigation water.

Mr. Ajadi shared his journey through the field of aquaponics engineering, which began with his university dissertation project. After extensive thought, he selected aquaponics as the project focus. He went through months of research, experimenting and prototyping, eventually resulting in automated systems that helped educate people about aquaponics. These systems are adaptable to other irrigation methods and can be controlled and monitored remotely.

With all the knowledge he had garnered, he wanted to take it one step further by implementing his aquaponics systems in Sheri Farms’ greenhouses. For every greenhouse project that succeeded, the following system’s growth area was larger than the last to allow for commercial efficiency.
Mr. Ajadi advised the youth to be confident in their ideas and aspire for success. “Failure is not the end, it is a necessary part of the path to success”, he concluded.
